This document helps identify the cause of connectivity issues when attaching an HP Scanjet scanner to a computer system using the Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface. Microsoft (R) Windows 98, Me, 2000 Pro, and XP support hardware-first installations when using Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices.

� Mainboard with VIA-Chipset (for example, HOT-591P, HOT-597)

USB devices may not work because of a timing-specific problem in the Universal Host Controller driver (Uhcd.sys). This problem may prevent USB devices from enumerating under specific timing conditions.
